I really love this recipe it's very easy to make. Like people said, adding white chocolate will be way better with flavors.

so melting, i really liked it!

Really good recipe. Easy but tastes great. We added white chocolate chips which was really yum! PS: The cookies spread quite a lot when cooking, so make sure to give them plenty of space on the oven tray :)

Amazing

I haven't tried this recipe but the ingredients are exactly the same as the Chelsea Sugar recipe called "Chocolate Chip Biscuits"

this recipe was good for my sisters 24th breakfast

These were really good, nice and chewy!

Just turned into a mush do not try!!

This was a dry recipe at the end but adding milk made it a good consistency

I loved it but didnt trust at first because Chelsea Sugar did not test the recipie

They tasted good but this recipe only made 14 small ones for me and it said it would make 30 medium ones

nice!!!!!!!!

I would def use this every day

Ended up quite a dry dough thats unrollable - but once the whole dough is done, just add a small capful of milk and its perfect :)

So sweet they are sickly

Wow I am 9 and I did this real quick, it is so easy and THE BEST cookies I have ever made. :D

They are so good put a few marshmallows in too, so good.

Grandsons love these. And love to help

I followed the recipe word by word (and am an experienced baker). The dough was extremely dry and flakey, the cookies were dry hunks of flour- a complete waste of time and ingredients :-(
I have no idea why so many 5 stars on this feed, I can only assume that the recipe has been altered?
CHELSEA SUGAR: Hi there, sorry to hear that these cookies didn't turn out well for you. We haven't altered the recipe.

Easy as to make and delicious. Definitely a 5/5.

So good, easy to make and so delicious.

I've made this recipe 3 times in 3 weeks. Love this recipe! Nice and soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. Trying pieces of chopped up white chocolate tonight should be good. I also like to leave mine another extra 2 minutes sometimes if i want nice fully crunchy ones but awesome recipe definitely won't change it.

I finally made the perfect cookies with this recipe! I'm so stoked. I've trialled and tested so many others but this one is my favourite. If you're looking for a chewy cookie recipe then this is the one.

Love this recipe!!

awesome recipe i will use many more times

Anyone who said this recipe turned out trash is SO wrong. Best choc chip cookies ever!!!!

Seriously? There were ingredients that were not even in the method and when I added everything together nothing worked.

Wow. These cookies are possibly the BEST cookies I've EVER tasted. I'm sorry to say this, but I am a yr 7 myself and I don't agree with the people who say it's too sweet. It's not for me!!! :) I say they are DELICIOUS.

Sweet, I loved it.

i like it

This cookies are so easy but so yum

I am 12 and I made them with no help and they were perfect!!!
Highly recommend this for anyone

Amazing so easy and delicious only thing I recommend not to do is put 1/2 cup of caster sugar I just put 1/2 cup of brown sugar because for me it tastes to sweet with both for me. By the way I'm 11 and as a kid sugars great for me so it's saying something for me saying it's to sweet.

I am a kid and it was very easy to make! I highly recommend them☺️

Wow these were easy to make and turned out really well-my kids loved them! :)

Whoop whoop

the chocolate chip cookies turned out really well but i did alter the recipe a bit. If you use this recipe, i recommend that you use one whole cup of chocolate chips instead of half a cup.

I substituted brown sugar for peanut butter - and it was soooo good!

Just made these, absolutly amazing! so easy to make. DELICIOUS

So quick & easy and the cookies are delish!! My new fave choc chip recipe. The dough is also too hard to resist so let's just say some of the batch didn't quite make it to the oven...

Yummy, and so easy to make

Taste a little too eggy for me. I prefer cookies with out the egg. Edmunds with the condensed milk will always be my favourite I think.

My husband thought this was my best batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies

Delicious with amazing texture.

Fantastic, go-to recipe! I put my cookies in for 16 minutes though, perfect!

FAQs

How does sugar affect chocolate chip cookies? ›

The lower the sugar, the less cookies spread, the drier/more crumbly they are. Cookies with less sugar taste less sweet, of course. But beyond that, their flavor also becomes flat; sugar is a flavor enhancer much like salt is.

How many grams of sugar in one homemade chocolate chip cookie? ›

A typical chocolate chip cookie contains 11 grams of sugar per 33-gram serving while a carrot cake has 31 grams of sugar per 90-gram serving. A sweetened cereal can contain 11 grams of sugar per 30-gram serving. So some of our favorite treats are about one-third sugars.”

What is the difference between a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie? ›

A chocolate chip cookie is not a sugar cookie with chocolate chips. Their recipes have a completely different ratio of ingredients. Sugar cookies use more flour than their chocolate-speckled counterparts. Sugar cookies also call for white sugar, while chocolate chip cookies usually use both brown and white sugar.

Does more sugar make cookies chewy? ›

A few tweaks — more sugar, a dash of milk — can make cookies crispy, chewy, or cakey.

What happens if you don't put sugar in cookies? ›

When you decrease the sugar in a cookie recipe, you won't just get a result that's less sweet. You'll get cookies that are harder, drier, crumblier, and spread far less. It was also interesting to note that decreasing the sugar also yielded 1 less cookie dough ball.

What happens if you forget to add brown sugar to cookies? ›

What happens when you bake without brown sugar? To be succinct, the resulting baked good could be slightly drier or more crisp. Without the excess moisture from the molasses in the brown sugar, the final cookie won't be as chewy and the final bread might be drier.

Packaged cookies

The average serving of supermarket cookie has 6 to 8 grams of fat with about 3 grams of saturated fat. It has about 1 gram of protein and less than 1 gram of fiber. Sugars vary more; we saw a range from 5 grams of sugar per serving to 13 grams.

What makes the cookie chewy? ›

Cornstarch helps product soft and thick cookies. Using more brown sugar than white sugar results in a moister, softer cookie. An extra egg yolk increases chewiness. Rolling the cookie dough balls to be tall and lumpy instead of wide and smooth gives the cookies a bakery-style textured thickness.

Does it matter what sugar you use in cookies? ›

Brown sugar makes my sugar cookies spread thin and keeps my oatmeal cookies from spreading at all; it makes both of them extra chewy. It also adds flavor to my crispy gingersnaps. White sugar turns my oatmeal cookies crisp and thin, and keeps my sugar cookies soft and thick.

What happens if you add too much granulated sugar to cookies? ›

Sugar sweetens the cookies and makes them an enticing golden brown. Adding too little sugar can affect the taste and texture of cookies. Adding too much can cause them to be brittle. Take your time creaming the sugar and butter together at the beginning.

Should I use baking soda or baking powder in cookies? ›

Baking soda is typically used for chewy cookies, while baking powder is generally used for light and airy cookies. Since baking powder is comprised of a number of ingredients (baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, etc.), using it instead of pure baking soda will affect the taste of your cookies.

What does adding milk to cookies do? ›

One of the main roles of milk in baking is to provide moisture. It can help to keep baked goods from becoming too dry and crumbly, and can also add tenderness to the texture. In addition to adding moisture, milk can also help to create a softer crumb in breads and cakes.

How does sugar affect baking cookies? ›

Sugar easily binds with water, which accomplishes two main things. 1) It locks in moisture, keeping your baked goods from drying out; and 2) It inhibits the development of gluten which keeps your cookies, cakes and sweet breads softer. Variances in sugar type will create different outcomes here.

What does sugar do to cookies? ›

As it dissolves with other ingredients, sugar absorbs moisture which slows down the development of gluten and starch. Sugar helps the dough be tender and crumbly rather than tough. Sugar caramelizes.

What effect does different sugars have on cookies? ›

Cookie doughs with sucrose (Abboud and Hoseney 1984) and fructose spread laterally more rapidly than cookies with glucose for high solubility and low melting point, and the surface of cookies with sucrose and fructose quickly spread more than cookies with glucose.

What can too much sugar do to cookies? ›

Excess Sugar and Fat

If your cookie contains excess sugar or fat, it will spread while baking. If your first batch of cookies spreads, try adding a few tablespoons of flour to help thicken the remaining dough.
